Hughie Fury has Mike Tyson’s record in his sights

Hughie Fury is only eighteen-years-old but already he’s in a rush.

The urgency is to rewrite the history books by becoming the youngest ever heavyweight ‘world’ champion.

Hughie, being backed by his father Peter, has now had six fights, 6-0 (4), and all within a three month period.

His latest victim, the durable Tomas Mrazek, was his toughest opponent to date, as the Czech puncher took him six rounds for the first time at Norwich’s EPIC TV studios on Saturday, just seven days after destroying Ladislav Kovarik in one round on a televised Channel 5 show.

Mike Tyson was aged 20 years, four months and 22 days when he dramatically KO’d Trevor Berbick to be crowned heavyweight king in November 1986.

Fury has time on his side but acknowledges the fact he must keep active if he’s going to succeed in entering the history books.

“I will be looking to get out twice again in July and every single month I will fight two times a month,” revealed Fury. “Most boxers fight two times a year but more the better for me and I just want to keep on going.”

Hughie picked his shots well against Mrazek and feels all the better for getting six rounds under his belt.

“It was great experience for me, nobody had taken me the distance before and to be honest I was glad he (Mrazek) was tough and I was pleased to do the distance.”

Also appearing on the same Norwich bill as Fury was ex-Commonwealth ruler Sam Sexton as he continued his comeback with a third successive win since being outclassed by David Price last year.

And Fury would relish the chance to step inside the ring with Sexton and other British heavyweight contenders in the not too distance future.

“Sam Sexton, Martin Rogan, John McDermott I would like to fight all of them guys. It would be great experience for me. I am stepping up the ladder and taking one fight at a time.

“I respect any British heavyweight as it takes guts to get in the ring,” he said.

As you would expect there’s little doubt in the mind of Fury what the outcome would be if he and Sexton were to meet.

“ I never underestimate anybody but If I got in the ring with Sam Sexton he would have problems - they all would.”

One thing’s for sure it’s going to be an exciting couple of years watching this teenage sensation.

The Fury Express train will next be seen on July 12 at the Fairways Hotel, Dundalk, Ireland, when Hughie takes on Belfast’s “Raging Bull” Darren Corbett .
