The Welshman, despite having five defeats from twelve outings, fancies his chances against the former two-time WBO heavyweight champion.
The 26-year-old southpaw was last in action in May against Poland’s word ranked Mateusz Masternak, who comprehensively outscored Miles over ten rounds in Denmark. “I’ve never heard of him,” said Hide. “If the fight is made then we will think about him, but until that time, there’s not much to say about it all."Miles, the current British Masters cruiserweight champion, had previously told Boxing News online: “Herbie Hide is 40 now, what does he have left? I think we’d have a really good fight if it come about.”
Hide, who hasn’t fought since a cut forced him out of the 2010 Prizefighter semi-finals, has been back in training with newly licensed trainer Jon Thaxton in Norwich.
Thaxton, a former British and European lightweight ruler, is fully aware of the potential pit falls of training a highly talented ex-world champion.
Said Thaxton: “With Herbie Hide I can't train him, I can only prepare him to fight and that is where it stops.
“I am in a no win situation with Herbie: if he wins people will say he is a massive talent anyway, and if he loses then I won't look too good as a trainer.”
Thaxton revealed Hide could be just two fights away from a potential title fight, saying: “My aim with Herbie is to get him back fighting again in the ring.
"He is such a big name in boxing he could potentially be fighting for a British title, European title, or a world title.
“One of these young champions could well give him a voluntary defence as Herbie is still a name in the sport.
“Boxing is a strange sport, and stranger things have happened,” added Thaxton.
There is still no official announcement of when Hide will be back in action, but his camp have also been looking at a shot at the lightly-regarded WBF strap, which is currently vacant.
